Derek Calhoon is an emergency small animal veterinarian in the San Francisco Bay Area. To pursue his passion of promoting the human-animal bond, Dr. Calhoon earned a Masters of Science in Sociology from the University of Amsterdam under a Fulbright grant and attended Cornell University for veterinary school. He completed a rotating small-animal internship at East Bay Veterinary Specialists and Emergency in 2011.
Through effective communication and accurate, accessible education regarding veterinary health and social well-being, he is dedicated to helping pets and owners deepen their ability to benefit one another. His busy lifestyle limits his current pet ownership to two exceptionally easy-going cats, Moxie and Whimsy. Derek spends his free time learning about physics or other non-veterinary subjects, consuming copious amounts of good music, and building his own furniture.
